The recent demonetisation of Rs 500/1000 notes has forced defaulters to become honorable tax payers much to the satisfaction of civic bodies who are making hay while the sun shines. To make the most of the last 48 hours, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner will now visit homes of tax payers who owe Rs 25 lakh or more as dues.
Since the announcement by the state government that citizens can pay taxes using Rs 500/1000 currencies, the Ulhasnagar municipal corporation (UMC) has netted Rs 17 crore as property tax (PT) and other dues from citizens. November 14 midnight being the last day to pay their civic bills using the now obsolete currencies, the UMC commissioner Rajendra Nimbalkar has decided to become the personal tax collector for those who owe a huge amount to the UMC.
To facilitate easy payment of PT, the UMC officials will also visit residence of citizens to pick up amounts of Rs 5 lakh or more. “Such property owners have to just send a message to the Municipal Commissioner and our team will visit the location and collect the dues. A receipt of the amount on the spot will also be given,” he says. People can send in their message to Nimbalkar on his cell number 9823073627.
