Colaba residents on Saturday held a meeting with their local corporator Sujata Sanap opposing the pay-and-park policy. The meeting was held in A Ward office.

"I had a meeting with them today when they called to oppose the scheme. I will also have a meeting with ward officer on this and take up the issue with the standing committee," Sanap said.

"This issue comes up after every election and is nothing but harassment for citizens. There is no reason why people should be paying for parking," said Pervez Cooper, a resident of the area, adding that, "The buildings are old and they were not designed to have parking space inside. It is for this reason that people have to park their cars outside. Why should we pay when there is no even surety of a space that is given to us?"

Another resident, Rocky Lobo, who attended the meeting, said, "There are lower and middle class people residing in the building. Asking them to pay so much does not make sense. They had tried to do this earlier too but we opposed it and it was set aside. Our corporator too should have opposed it earlier when the BMC was looking to have one. Now, she has assured us that she will be doing something about it."

"We are contemplating on filing a litigation because it is not well planned," said advocate Prerak Choudhary, a resident of the area.
