Even after promising that it would declare the results of the winter semester exams in time, the University of Mumbai is yet to declare the results of over 220 examinations. Of the 402 examinations conducted by the varsity in the winter semester, results of only 179 examinations have been declared while the results of major programmes like BA, BCom and BSc are yet to be declared despite crossing the deadline of 45 days.
After the unprecedented delay in declaring the results of the summer semester due to the newly introduced onscreen evaluation system, officials at the varsity had promised that students would no longer have to go through the same ordeal as they claimed to have 'fixed' the glitches which led to the delays.
Despite streamlining the processes however, students are still awaiting their results nearly three months after they wrote their exams. "It has been over 75 days since the law exams but there are no signs of results yet. As students we will protest if results are not declared in the next one week," said Sachin Pawar, President of the Student Law Council. Pawar said that the varsity is set to repeat the delays that took place during the summer semester.
A senior university official said that assessments for all major programmes were near completion and that the results would be declared in the next one week. "Some formalities with respect to getting internal marks from colleges is in process and students would soon get their results" added the official.
The Supreme Court on Monday asked the state government to ensure that the MU Vice-Chancellor's appointment takes place as per the norms set by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The court was hearing a petition filed by Dr Arun Sawant, former pro-VC of the varsity who has alleged that the government has not followed the norms while forming the search committee for the new VC. As per Sawant, member of the committee need to be distinguished academicians and there is no role of a civil servant or an administrative official in the process. Currently the search committee consists of senior ISRO scientist K Kasturirangan, IAS officer Bhushan Gagrani and NIT director Dr Shyamlal Soni.
