Patanjali Yog Samiti to teach yoga in city schools

The circular have been issued by the North Zone education department for the schools to conduct Yoga and Pranayam sessions for which the permission have been given to Patanjali Yog Samiti.

After asking schools to teach yoga to their students on the 21st of every month, the education department has issued another circular on Thursday, asking city-based schools to contact Patanjali Yog Samiti Mumbai as according to the government resolution Patanjali Yog Samiti has been permitted to teach Yoga.

The circular have been issued by the North Zone education department for the schools to conduct Yoga and Pranayam sessions for which the permission have been given to Patanjali Yog Samiti. Uday Nare, teacher of Hansraj Morarji Public School in Andheri, said: "The schools welcome the move. The schools have been asked to cooperate with the Patanjali Yog Samiti. But it is not clear whether the schools will have to pay them."

Another principal of a BMC school in North Zone said: "We have not yet received the circular by education department. But if the Samiti will have to be paid then it is better that our teachers, who are teaching physical education, continue teaching yoga to our students."

However, despite the orders, schools are still not clear whether teaching Yoga is compulsory or optional.
