For the past three years, girls in the state have been leaving boys behind in the ICSE Std X results, but the board's statistics show that their pass percentage has gradually been sliding down, even if minutely. While the pass percentage of girls in 2013 was 99.81%, it came down in 2014 to 99.78%, and to 99.77% in 2015.

Education experts cite distraction from media, community, mental stress and so on as factors for the decline in results.

Seema Bhuch, Principal of Gundecha Education Society, Kandivali, said, "Education has become a priorityfor all including girls that shows gender bias is decreasing But the level of inequality in girls have not vanished which was higher in past. The reason behind such decline could be the distractions girl students face from media, people, communities."

Echoing the sentiments of Bhuch, another principal Madhu Khetan, Jankidevi Public School, Andheri, "Girls are more connected to telecommunications, internet, social networking sites, etc. They don't generally share their mind with the parents. And this is how the mental brain of the girl child gets affected which leads to loosing their concentration power. If the mental brain is disturbed, how would they focus on the studies and examinations? Girls should free up themselves. They should speak out their mind, thoughts, complaints to their parents or teachers so that they could understand and eradicate the problem bothering them."

While the girls students of Maharashtra had a pass percentages declining from past three years, the boys have shown fluctuation in pass percentage. For example if boys pass percentage in 2013 was 99.70%, then it decreased in 2014 with 99.52% and again increased in 2015 with pass percentage 99.69%
