There is face off brewing in Navi Mumbai between supporters of political parties and residents as the former plan to take a victory march following a no-confidence motion, scheduled for Tuesday, October 25. It is the first time in 26 years, since the formation of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, that a no-confidence motion has been demanded by political parties against the Civic Chief by members of the standing committee.

Meanwhile, residents of Navi Mumbai joined a 'Walk for the Commissioner' this past Sunday morning from Vashi railway station to Shivaji Chowk in Vashi. Social workers and RTI activists, along with other eminent citizens joined in the silent march to support Mundhe against the proposed no-confidence motion. It witnessed a huge gathering of residents displaying placards supporting Mundhe and applauding his good work for the city in a very short time.

The special General Body Meeting, scheduled for October 25, where the no-confidence motion will be introduced is expected to succeed as a majority of the members of the House are against Civic Chief Tukaram Mundhe. The Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena parties have issued a party whip to vote for the no-confidence and oust the Civic Chief.

Sudhir Pawar, secretary, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress committee says, "We have issued party whip and all the corporators will vote to oust Mundhe." However, an NCP corporator said he was against the party's decision of ousting Mundhe, but was unable to do anything as the party has issued a whip.

Contract workers, hawkers and even a section of local businessmen are reportedly opposed to Civic Chief Mundhe. RTI activist Rajeev Mishra says, "Contract workers and hawkers will join the victory march after the no-confidence motion. This is the time when, residents of Navi Mumbai should come out in strength and prevent it." An honest officer must get residents' support, he said. Social media has been flooded with messages to save the commissioner from being transferred.
