A group of citizens from the Parsi community met Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday requesting him to ask the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) to change the alignment of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor in Marine Lines, claiming that the Metro-3 passes below two of the community’s fire temple on JSS Road.

The Parsi Community has been demanding the realignment of Metro-3 citing that some of their ancient and oldest fire temples in South Mumbai, built in the 19th century, are heritage structures and might get affected. However, the MMRC had earlier cited that there is a safe buffer and none of these structures would be affected.

Pervez Cooper, a Parsi citizen from Colaba who met Thackeray, said, “We were assured that he will discuss it with MMRC officials and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis requesting them to change the alignment in such a way that these fire temples are not coming in its way. Our temples are ancient and we need to preserve them. We hope to have a solution rather than filing legal case or going to the court.”

Another Parsi resident from JSS Road, Homa Pouredehi, who also met Thackeray, said, “There are four fire temples in this vicinity. Now, two are in front of our house where the Metro alignment is. Thackeray said he will do his best to see that the alignment is shifted. He will speak with the chief minister.”

Sakpal added, “However, some have demanded changing of the whole alignment from JSS Road towards Maharashi Karve Road which is not possible at this stage.
