The Parshiwadi Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Ghatkopar (west) had to change pandal decoration at the last moment as it does not have enough time to complete it before the festival begins. They alleged that their precious time got wasted in getting permission from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Celebrating for the last 66 years, the Parshiwadi Ganpati mandal in New Maneklal Estate in Ghatkopar (west) got permission on August 21. However, they had already started the process like arranging all documents on August 14. "When we reached at ward office, we got to know that Rs 100 bond was to be attached with the documents," said Onkar Sahu, Secretary of Parshiwadi Sarvajanik Ganeshutsav Mandal (PSGM). He added that this bind was sought first time for giving permission.

"Since we were not aware about the bond and even the civic body did not inform Ganpati mandal in advance, most of the Ganpati mandal had to return from ward office," said Sahu. However, after Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (BSGSS) intervened, the civic body started help desk.

Their problem did not end here. When they tried to submit with all the documents in order, the server was down. "Earlier, we used to complete the process in one or two days. But the online system it took seven days," said Sahu. Since the permission was not in hand, they could not start setting up pandal and internal decoration.

The mandap had planned to convey message good work of police and traffic police through animation. However, with less time available, they dropped the plan now. "We have decided to make a cave like structures using papers and jute fabric," said Haresh Chandra Sharma, President of Parshiwadi mandal.

According to members of the mandal, the cost of the material has also increased and ban on thermocol and plastic has also affected budget. "We always stick to eco-friendly Ganesha and decoration material. However, after ban on thermocol and plasrtic, cost of other materials have also shot up due to rise in demand," said Sharma. He added that they will not spend too much in Ganesh festival and will send saved money to Kerla flood affected areas.
