Parents of more than 400 students protested against the demolition of Kushabhau Sheth Bangar High School in Chandivli on Wednesday. The collector's office had served demolition notice to the school twice — on July 23 and on August 7.
The notice, which was served after a recent high court order, stated that the school structure is unauthorised and needs to be demolished as the land is reserved for a playground.
Principal Shakuntala Yewale said, "Our school started in 2000 and even gets government aid. Our management is trying its best to bring a stay on the demolition order. Along with the students, parents also gathered to protect the school from being razed down."
Kapil Patil, MLC and president of Lokbharati, has decided to stand as senior counsel to the school and plead for relief in high court on Thursday. "We will approach the court tomorrow and plead for relief to the school. The school is legal and get government grant," he said.
A parent, who does not wish to be named, said, "My two children study in this school in Std IX. One of them fainted on Tuesday, when the authorities came for the first time to demolish the school. Children are very scared. I hope we get some relief."
