Over 60 parents and members of the Committee to Save Aided Education on Monday, protested at the SIES School in Matunga, for allegedly not conducting admissions for the seats reserved under the Right to Education Act, 2009.

"In spite of it being an aided school, it has not yet conducted the admissions for the seats reserved under the RTE," said Sudhir Paranjape, member of the committee. The committee is going to stage protests over the next two days.

"Quite a few aided schools have given admissions during the previous academic years, but they are refusing to do so this year claiming there is no directive from education authorities," said Paranjape.

The school, however, said the admissions will be conducted as per the prescribed procedure. "The schedule will be put up on the notice board and we will conduct admissions under the quota as per the government rules. No other schools in the vicinity have started with the admission process yet. We will not do anything against the rules and the parents can rest assured," said Kalyani Arumugam, principal of the school.

The committee has also raised concern over the ongoing admission process and alleged that the process does not allow parents to choose a schools and the lack of transparency in the process.
