Two months after struggling to find out what their daughter is suffering from, a ray of hope has come to parents of two-year-old Drisha Gupta, who has been diagnosed with Budd-Chiari syndrome, a rare disorder affecting the liver.

For more than a month, the toddler was admitted to Bombay Hospital, but all her reports were normal.

Based on the dna report published on August 21, not only did a family get in touch with the Guptas to help pinpoint what Drisha is suffering from, but many others also came forward to pay her hospital bills.

After dna's report, a family called up the parents and spoke about how their son is suffering from the same syndrome and is being treated by a child specialist in Lilavati hospital.

Drisha's aunt Nisha said, "The family helped us by giving the contact number of the doctor who treated their child. We came to know that 60% of her liver is damaged. There is a clot because of which her blood is not getting purified."

Doctors have suggested a liver transplant. "We managed to receive around Rs80,000 via crowd-funding and spreading the message on WhatsApp. The money helped us to pay the bills of the previous hospital. She has been admitted in Lilavati Hospital since a week. We will need more funds for her operation. The bill might be around Rs30 lakh," said Nisha.

Dr Rajeev Redkar, who is treating Drisha, said, "So far, I have seen 32 cases of children suffering from Budd-Chiari. Even though it is a rare disorder, 50% of the cases survive and do well. It takes long to detect it because a regular sonography doesn't spot it. It needs an MRI and further check-ups."
