Distressed at the slow pace of investigations into the as yet unexplained deaths of three children of a Virar school, more than two weeks ago, the parents of the kids plan to seek a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department.

The bodies of the school children, all three studying in class 9 of Vagad Gurukul International School, were found lying behind the school premises on August 27.

According to information collected from other students, Prahul Patel, Kushal Dagha and Meet Chadhwa (all aged 14) apparently tried to get away after they were beaten by teachers for performing poorly and teachers had threatened to punish them further.

The police registered a case of suicide, which is also bothering the parents as the postmortem reports are not available yet.

"We will meet home minister RR Patil to demand a CID inquiry as we are not satisfied by the probe conducted by the Palghar police so far," said Suresh Dhadhwa, father of one of the kids.

"The police have overlooked a major part of case and have not revealed anything about the injuries the children suffered.. They say the children drowned, but have not explained how they could have drowned in shallow water," said Suresh Chadhwa, father of Meet.

The school is situated in Sakwar village, a short distance from Virar, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.

Four teachers were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. Two of them, Ripusudan Garg and Sandeep Palwa, have been booked also for abetment of suicide.

"Our kids were murdered and it cannot be a case of drowning or suicide as they had fled the hostel together. The mystery has to end and we must get justice," said Narayan Patel, the father of a second child.

Shrikrishna Kokate, additional superintendent of Palghar police, said they were awaiting the postmortem notes. "The investigation officer is in touch with the parents of the deceased children and if they are not satisfied with the probe we will explain the technicalities of the case to them."
