Parents cry foul over NEET ordinance

The parents of city's medical aspirants seem miffed by the ordinance which does not allow students to secure admission in the state's private medical colleges through the State Medical Entrance Exam (MHT-CET).

On Monday, the parents gathered outside chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' office at Mantralaya in order to intimate their grievance.

"Why should our children undergo such pressure? They should have equal rights to apply to private colleges too," said Shridevi Padhuval, a parent.

Earlier, parents had staged protests against the Supreme Court's (SC) verdict of cancellation of the MHT-CET and the consideration of only the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) for admissions in medical colleges.
On Friday, after facing pressure from the state governments, the Union cabinet cleared an ordinance, bypassing SC's decision to hold NEET this year.

State education minister Vinod Tawde also held a press conference recently in Mumbai, declaring that MHT-CET will not be scrapped and students who have given CET can apply for admissions in medical colleges.
