Former Union Home Secretary RK Singh on Tuesday accused Pakistan of deliberately foot dragging on the issue of bringing the perpetrators of the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai to justice.
“Pakistan is deliberately doing foot dragging. This attack was not just a terrorist attack. This attack was sponsored by state agencies like ISI. Pakistan has no intention to investigate ISI officers. Even the Government of Pakistan does not control ISI,” he said on the fifth anniversary of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. “I don’t see Pakistan probing ISI. The mastermind, Hafiz Saeed, is roaming freely,” he added.
“They say that they want proof to probe him but 90 percent of proof lies with him (Saeed) only. The plot was hatched there, terrorists were trained there and preparations were made there,” he said. “Until and unless we change our outlook towards terrorism and take effective steps, Pakistan will not stop these acts,” he said.
Criticising the Indian Government’s decision to hold talks with Pakistan, he said, “After every terrorist attack, the government says there will be no talks with Pakistan. But after the incident fades from both public and media memory, then our leaders start talks with their Pakistan counterparts again. So, with this plan, we will not achieve anything. Instead, Pakistan is still sponsoring attacks against India. “ There has to be a Pakistan policy, which must have a provision for dealing with such attacks,” he said in response to absence of Pakistan policy.
The 2008 Mumbai attacks were twelve coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across Mumbai, by members of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Ajmal Kasab, the only attacker who was captured alive, later confessed upon interrogation that the attacks were conducted with the support of Pakistan’s ISI.
The attacks, which drew widespread global condemnation, began on November 26, and lasted till November 29, 2008, claiming the lives of 166 people and wounding at least 308.
On November 29, National Security Guards (NSG) conducted Operation Black Tornado to flush out the remaining attackers. It resulted in the deaths of the last remaining attackers at the Taj Hotel and the ending all-fighting in the attacks.
Kasab was hanged on November 21, 2012 and buried at Yerwada Jail in Pune. (ANI
