The 10-year-old daughter of a 32-year-old painter is suffering from an enlarged heart and the only way to save her life is through a heart transplant that will cost him Rs 16 lakh. Out of helplessness and in the hope to arrange funds in time, Sarfaraz Khan is roaming the streets of south Mumbai — around Mantralaya, Gateway of India and Marine Drive — with a placard that seeks donations from passersby. The message on Khan's placard reads, "Please help me save my daughter. She needs a heart to become an IPS officer".

His daughter Saniya, a class V student, has stopped attending school after the doctors cautioned him about her deteriorating health. According to Khan, a private hospital in the city has asked him to deposit Rs 10 lakh as advance. Another renowned hospital in the city quoted Rs 20 lakh for the surgery, he claims.

"For the past one year, I am trying to collect money for her treatment. I had to discharge her from the hospital after the bills rose to Rs 2 lakh. We have sold our belongings to fund her initial treatment and now I have no option but to seek help from generous people," he said.

"Doctors have said that she can collapse anytime due to breathlessness as only 10 per cent of her heart is in working condition. I have also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to help me save my daughter's life," said Khan.
