Out of 205 complaints, received by the nodal officers of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) since September 2014, only 22 have been addressed so far. The complaints were made using the corporation’s helpline number 1800-222-108, where residents were asked to lodge their grievances. However, 183 complaints made so far have gone unheeded.

The helpline was launched by TMC in September 2014 and most of the complaints received were made from Wartak Nagar and Naupada. So far only the complaints from Wartak Nagar have been while ignoring all other. Sandeep Malvi, public relations officer, TMC, while talking to iamin said that they do their duty which is to register complaints and forward them to nodal officers and then It is their responsibility to address the complaints.

Malvi did concede that while regular action is taken with regards to illegal hoardings, a majority of the complaints are pending. TMC has no provision that would allow them to levy fine on individuals who put up illegal hoardings. The TMC commissioner has now instructed that an FIR be filed against those guilty of putting up illegal hoardings and have complaints against them made by residents using the helpline number.
