The list of conciliators updated on the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority has a total of 33 names, of which 18 are developers. The remaining are from Grahak Panchayat of Mumbai and Pune. The conciliators are expected to play the role of a mediator between a developer and an aggrevied home buyer.

However, housing experts doubt that developers will actually be able to mediate and instead of having so many persons with a non-law background, a few advocates should have been accommodated on the list.

Provisions under the RERA Act 2016, allows MahaRERA to have conciliators where an aggrieved home buyer can approach the conciliators for an amicable solution for his or her problem. The list includes top developers from Mumbai and Pune like Niranjan Hiranandani, Mukesh Mehta, Pravin Doshi, Ashok Mohanani, Vijay Wadhwa, Paras Gundecha and Rajesh Prajapatai.

Mumbai Grahak Panchayat’s Varsha Raut and other fellow activists have found their name on the list too.

A training session for all the conciliators is being undertaken where they are being made aware about how to go ahead with mediation. Online forms on MahaRERA website are available.
