People from all walks of life are now coming forward demanding change of guards at the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali. In a series of reports over the past four days, a dna and Zee Media team has brought to the fore several alleged irregularities at the trust.

An 83-year-old freedom fighter, Balasaheb Jambhulkar, has said that he had already moved court against the chairman and vice-chairman of the trust's governing council.

About seven to eight years ago, Jambhulkar said, there was a news report published about an indefinite fast to protest alleged malpractices at Shikshan Prasarak Mandali. After meeting the protesters, Jambhulkar decided to take up the cause by starting his own agitation against the trust.

The octogenarian said he had sought information from the trust under RTI, but the governing council refused to divulge the details, despite the then state information commissioner Vijay Kuvlekar stating that the trust fell within the ambit of RTI.

"That is the reason I am continuing my agitation against Shikshan Prasarak Mandali. The government should conduct a thorough inquiry in all the allegations," said Jambhulkar.

Referring to news reports and the people who are heading institution now, Shirish Bodhani, a former student of Haribhai Devkaran Prashala in Solapur, said, "I am ashamed that I am a former student of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali."

Bodhani, who is an owner of Shirish Traders in Pune, said that his father late PV Bodhani was the chairman of the administrative board of the trust and retired as principal of Tilak College of Education. He has demanded an inquiry into the alleged irregularities.

Fattechand Ranka. president of Pune Saraf Association, has expressed anguish over the state of affairs. Ranka is also the treasurer of the Federation of Trade Associations of Pune, an umbrella body of over 80 trading associations. Ranka said that these allegations are one-sided, and when a Zee correspondent pointed out that the governing council was not coming forward to present its side, Ranka said, "Still, I am doubtful about the allegations, but a detailed inquiry should be done so that truth can come out."
