Out for test drive, youth loses control over truck, rams into 12 vehicles

A 22-year-old youth allegedly rammed the truck he was driving into 12 parked vehicles in Mulund (West) in the wee hours of Saturday after he lost control over the vehicle. He was arrested by the Mulund police soon after the incident.

The accused, identified as Abhilesh Jaiswal, is a resident of Mulund colony. According to the police, the incident occurred around 12.30am on Saturday, when the Jaiswal was driving his father's truck. The police said Jaiswal does not have a valid licence for driving heavy vehicles.

The alleged incident occurred on Netaji Subhash Chandra Road. Jaiswal's father had bought the truck on Saturday, following which Jaiswal took it out to learn how the drive it properly later in the night. He, however, soon lost control and first rammed into a parked car.

"The locals asked him to stop the vehicle. This scared him and he stepped on the accelerator, following which he lost control again and rammed into 11 parked vehicles. The truck was at such high speed that even after ramming into 11 vehicles, it did not stop and went ahead and rammed into the gate of Saket Building," said an officer.

Senior inspector Phoolsingh Pawar said, "Jaiswal told his father that he would sleep in the truck and, hence, his father gave him the key. However, without his father's knowledge, Jaiswal went for a drive and created havoc. When one of the locals tried to stop him, he moved the vehicle towards him. Fortunately, the local ran out of the way and was saved."

Jaiswal has been booked for attempt to murder and act endangering life and personal safety of others of the IPC. He has also been booked under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, added Pawar.

Jaiswal was produced in court on Saturday and remanded in police custody till March 24.
