A day after the arrest of two accused in the gang-rape of a 21-year-old in Aarey Colony on Saturday, the family of the woman is not aware about the progress of the case and they are upset over the slow movement by the police.
"We have not been informed about the arrests yet. We have been in touch with the police. But we are busy running about attending to my sister who is still in hospital," said the brother of the woman. He informed that the girl as well as her husband were in trauma.
A little after midnight on Friday, four men barged into their hut and forced the girl to have a physical relationship. They even offered her money. But when she refused and her husband intervened, they assaulted him, bound him and then took turns to rape the woman.
On Thursday, the crime branch arrested Velapandi Harijan, the son of the landlord of the couple, and an accomplice, and booked them for the crime.
The woman, who is three months' pregnant, has been living there for the past two months. She moved to the city with her husband from Allahabad about seven months ago. Her father and three sisters, who are in Allahabad, have not been told yet about the incident.
The brother said: "Our mother passed away some time ago. Recently, dad had an accident and he is still undergoing treatment. So, we don't want to tell them about this. My brother and I have been dealing with the police and the neighbours."
He said that they would not leave the city and would fight to see the culprits hanged. "The police told us they will nab all four men within a week. But they have not been co-operative. Our sister is the youngest in the family and she has suffered a lot. We hope all of them are caught and that they get the death sentence. We will not leave the city out of fear," he said.
