There has been mixed reaction to the interim order by the Bombay high court on Wednesday with respect to ban on bull and bullock slaughter ban. People stated that while there was some relief, they were hopeful of scrapping of the law.

"When it comes to traders, the 30-day period granted to not take any coercive action on possession of beef does not mean anything. It is a perishable commodity that does not last more than a day or two anyway. In case of traders who keep it for a month, that period is also over," said Mohammed Ali Qureshi, president of the Mumbai Beef Dealers Association in Mumbai suburban district.

Maulana Mehmood Dariyabadi of All India Ulema Council said: "The period of punishment made in the law makes it a joke. A person will have more trouble if there is beef on his plate rather than in case of a sexual attack.

There are many states where beef is available and if a person can get it from there and eat, what is the problem. We only hope that towards a later date the court will rule in favour of poor men."

"It is an interim order and we are waiting for a final hearing. There have been some relief given to people, like not taking coercive action and not invading privacy. We are waiting for final hearing," said Dolphy D'Souza, one of the petitioners.
