Online telephone directory firm alleges data theft by rival

In a case of possible corporate espionage, a popular online local telephone directory company has lodged a complaint alleging that their business listing data has been stolen by a competitor company. The company has lodged a complaint with Bangur Nagar police.

Who have been named in the plaint?

According to the police, the complaint has been lodged by the manager of the company situated at Link Road in Malad (W) against two directors of a rival company, who stay in Chandigarh and United States.

How has the company suffered?

"As per the complaint, the company's business listing data has been stolen by their rivals and it is being used for their gain. This has allegedly caused financial losses to the complainant's company," said an officer from Bangur Nagar police station.

What cops plan to do?

The police have registered a case of theft against under relevant sections the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. The police refused to reveal the identity of the accused persons saying the investigation is still under way.

"We would be sending a team to Chandigarh to record the statement of one of the accused named in the complaint. It is yet to be ascertained how the data was stolen and whether there was any insider's hand. We are also in the process of establishing communication with the other suspect who is believed to be in the US now," the officer said.
