With the aim to help senior citizens of Matunga, residents have come together to organise 'One Matunga' — a street event by Matunga residents — for the fourth time on March 26, Sunday.

The street, where the event will be held, will be divided into different zones, each alloted for activities such as performing arts, games, food and medical testing to name a few. The initiative is organised by over 150 residents staying in Matunga area.

Speaking about the concept introduced in the initiative this year, Anchal Sarawal, member of One Matunga, said, "This year, the main attraction of the event is a senior citizen zone, where youngsters will train the elderly to use gadgets such as laptops, mobile apps, booking a taxi and make online payments. They will also hold a workshop on safety for the elderly when they are alone at home. Police officers will provide help by training our volunteers, who will hold the workshop for the senior citizens."

The BMC, Mumbai Traffic Police and Mumbai Police will make use of the community initiative to spread awareness about safety and waste segregation, which received good response in 2016.

A consumer forum desk will also be installed to educate the residents and hear any grievances related to consumer issues.

Stressing on the social cause attached to the initiative, Sarawal said, "We have asked the residents to carry their plastic waste, which will be collected and later be sent for recycling. Once the waste is handed over, residents will get a discount coupons in return from local stores."
