One person was killed and a fireman injured after a fire broke out in Nagpada area on Thursday afternoon.
According to officials, a call, informing about the fire, came at around 5.15 pm. Three water tankers, four fire engines and an ambulance rushed to the scene. The fire broke out in a godown located in Arab Gali at Mohammad Ali Road in Nagpada just across a municipal industrial estate.
"The fire was under control at around 2:30 pm. It was confined to garments, wooden stock and other machinery. It was a ground floor structure and so it did not spread and we could reach the spot on time. The deceased could not be identified," said a fire official.
Fireman Satosh Dharmaraj sustained minor injuries and was given immediate treatment.
"We have asked the BEST not to restore electric supply till we give them further instructions. The entire godown measuring around 6,000 sq ft was gutted completely. Local residents said that the deceased person was sleeping inside the godown when the fire broke out and could not escape on time," the official added.
The person was declared dead on arrival at the civic-run Nair hospital.
