The MRA Marg police have registered a case against the unidentified person who was driving the vehicle that on Sunday night allegedly hit and killed two bikers on the JJ flyover.

According to the MRA Marg police, the deceased Niyaz Khan, 21, and Sameer Shaikh, 20, were heading towards Ghatkopar on the northbound stretch of the flyover when an unidentified vehicle hit their Bajaj Pulsar from the rear.

The impact sent the bike crashing to the other lane of the flyover. While a Mercedes Benz car on that lane managed to dodge the bike, another vehicle following, also a Benz, hit the motorcycle. The two-wheeler was again flung to the north-bound stretch of the flyover," said an officer from MRA Marg police station. The Mercedes Benz was also damaged in the accident.

"The accused drove off. The duo, who were not wearing helmets, fell on the road and died of head injuries. Two other friends were following them. The friends took the injured to hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival," the officer said.

The unidentified accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 304 (a) for causing death by negligence and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The deceased, Khan and Shaikh, were going home from Azad Maidan, where preparations for a religious gathering are underway. The duo and their friends were working as volunteers for the organisers of the gathering.
