Parmar owns a duplicate body spray manufacturing unit in Dharavi and the chemical was brought into the city for making duplicate body sprays.

"We had specific information from our informer that a man was allegedly smuggling methanol in huge quantity without required permissions. On the basis of the information, we intercepted the truck near Diagla garden in our jurisdiction and seized the chemical," said police sub inspector (PSI) Mahendra Patil.

"On inquiring Parmar we came to know that he used to use this chemical to make duplicate body sprays which he would sell at cheap prices in the market. It's a serious offence as the chemical is prone to fire and could cause major mishap if taken carelessly," he added.

During the investigation it was revealed that Parmar would hire a truck of his friend to transport the chemical in the city. "We are investigating from where the chemical was originated and how many times he had brought the chemical into the city," said Patil.

"There has been a copyright case registered against Parmar earlier too. He would make duplicate sprays of branded body sprays," he added.

The Dharavi police have booked Parmar under section 285 (Negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Indian Penal Code.
