A day after the AC local was introduced in the city, 2,827 commuters have travelled so far, and 40 monthly passes and 2 weekly passes have been bought by people. The WR has earned Rs 1,66,955 on Monday and Tuesday from the sale of the tickets and passes of AC train. Twelve passengers were booked for ticketless travel and a fine of Rs 4,580 was collected.
For each service, two Ticket Collectors (TCs) and 12 RPF staff have been posted inside this train. Sources said that there were issues with the closing of the door as the last train left Borivli at 2.11pm. At Andheri, the train halted for eight minutes as doors remained open.
The AC train is currently being operated on a trial period between Churchgate and Borivli. Six services are being operated on the entire stretch till December 29. The WR will be operating 12 services between Churchgate and Virar from January 1. The fare structure of the AC train is steep: the minimum weekly pass for the train is Rs 285, fortnightly pass is Rs 430 and the monthly pass for the first six months of the AC train journey between Churchgate and Mumbai Central is Rs 570.
The maximum weekly and fortnightly fare is Rs 1070 and Rs 1,555 and the monthly pass for the entire 60 km stretch between Churchgate and Virar is Rs 2040. The AC train is equipped with GPS and talk-back system which commuters can use during an emergency. The air conditioning AC is blazing at 22 degrees while at some locations of the train it is further less.
