An Omani national who allegedly misbehaved with a Jet airways crew member during a flight on Tuesday was arrested after the plane landed at the city airport.

A Jet airways spokesperson said, "Jet Airways confirms the incidence of a disruptive passenger on board flight 9W 539 (Muscat- Mumbai) of April 14th, 2015. Upon arrival in Mumbai, the guest was handed over to security personnel and taken to the local police station, where the airline has lodged a complaint. The matter is now with the police."

What complicated the matter for the investigating agencies is that the accused, a foreign national, was a transit passenger who could not be taken out of the airport premises as he did not have an Indian visa. He was taken only after the local police officials lodged the required documentation for seeking a temporary landing permit visa for him with the Immigration department.

"The case was reported to us by the airline staff. There is an allegation that the passenger touched a crew member inappropriately," said a senior police official from Sahar police station, which is investigating the case. The accused was booked under section 354 (intending to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal code. The airport sources said that the accused was accompanied by a friend. The due had boarded the plane from Muscat to Mumbai and had a further connecting flight to Bangkok.

The case comes about a week after a US national, who was on the way to Goa with his wife and child, was arrested by airport police for misbehaving with a female staffer of Jet airways. The man was reportedly miffed with his flight delay, and allegedly touched the shoulder of an airline's lady customer care executive while asking for the status of his flight. The executive, treating the touch as offensive, reported the matter to the police.
