In an election bonanza, the state Cabinet on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 736.50 crores for various welfare boards of the OBC, VJ-NT and SBCs in the state. The decision is aimed at pacifying the anger within the OBC and other categories against the backdrop of reservation benefits for the Maratha community in the state, as well as that of Centre's decision of 10 per cent reservation for Open Category citizens.

The Minister for the OBC department Ram Shinde, while addressing a press conference at the Mantralaya, denied that this decision was aimed at wooing the communities on the eve of elections. He said that the most complex issue of Maratha reservation has been tackled on a priority basis by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He said the pending subject with regard to other categories was also cleared in Tuesday's Cabinet.

Shinde informed that the young entrepreneurs in all these categories would be provided with personal loans of up to Rs 50 lakh. He informed that the government would provide separate hostels for students from the OBC, VJ-NT and SBC categories in every district of the state.

Shinde informed that on the lines of Annasaheb Patil Corporation which provides loans for entrepreneurs from economically weaker sections of the society, the Maharashtra State Other Backward Class Finance and Development Corporation would be provided Rs 250 crores. He said that this would provide for finance in the form of loans to eligible dynamic young entrepreneurs from OBC communities.

Shinde informed that the Cabinet has also given its nod for sanctioning Rs 300 crore for Vasantrao Naik Vimukta Jaati and Nomadic Tribes Development Corporation to run various welfare schemes.
