There has been a substantial rise in the number of CBSE 12th standard students scoring above 90%. That's what the results (of the south region, including Maharashtra) that came out on Monday, revealed.
The better results, said principals of some of these schools, was the result of the hard grind the students were put through.

This year, there was 9.2% increase in the number of students who appeared for the exam across country, and approximately 10,29,874 students sat for these exams. Of this 6,03,064 were boys and 4,26,810 girls. In the state, the pass percentage was 93.51.

The Apeejay High School in Nerul saw 56 students scoring above 90%, last year 47 had scored above 90%. Rakesh Joshi, the school principal, said: "We gave individual attention to students who were weak. From the beginning of the year, we made them practise, and that helped them a lot. Extra lectures and counselling in the month of December also helped students score well."

Echoing the sentiments, Anjali Bowen, principal, Ryan International School, Kandivli, said: "There has been considerable rise in the number of students scoring above 90% this year. Children have worked hard and have learned how to navigate. They had realised that their career depended on their performance in the board and competitive exams, so they gave their best. Our teachers too have been of great help in our students performing so well."

In Ryan International School, Kandivli 15 students scored above 90%; last year the number was 7. Ninety three students from this school appeared for the exam this year; of this 48 scored above 75%, while 27 scored above 60%.

The principal of Rajhans Vidyalaya, Deepshikha Srivastava, said: "The result is much better than it was last year. Now since students are taking competitive exams for IIT as well as CBSE exams seriously, they have been performing better." In Rajhans Vidyalaya of the 250 students who sat for the 12th exam, 59 scored above 90%.
