Around a month ago the state transport body started the Panvel-Mantralaya bus services. Now, residents of Kharghar too have been demanding similar services from the node.
Their demand also includes a separate bus service between Kharghar and Panvel. Residents met Sunil Tatkare, guardian minister, Raigad district, and sought his intervention for speedy decision in this regard.
According to residents, the frequency of bus is very less.
“One has to wait for long time to catch a bus. In the evenings, commuters have to wait for almost one hour. The auto rickshaw fares are also very high as drivers don’t follow the meter system. So, we have no other option, but to shell out more money to reach our homes,” said Aniket Gholap, a resident of sector 35.
Kiran Patil, president of youth wing of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said, “We have been following the demand for almost two years. But, the state transport did not pay heed to our request.”
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation had clarified that they cannot run buses to the interior of any nodes.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has a few services up to Taloja in Kharghar node. But there are no bus services between Kharghar and Panvel.
“NMMT cannot run bus between Kharghar and Panvel and the Panvel Municipal Council is yet to start its services. In this scenario, only the state transport can run buses which go to the interior of the node,” said Patil.
Some residents claim that they have to go Panvel for official work and shopping, as the city is nearer to their homes.
“Every time, we cannot got to Vashi or Mumbai and we have to rely on Panvel,” said Sangita Mhatre, a resident of sector 35.
However, residents are optimistic that the state transport should be given a separate bus service in the node.
Currently, there are no or very few bus services in villages like Owe Camp, Owe Village, Ranjanpada, Murbi, Fanaswadi and Dhamole.
“Villagers from these areas have to take auto rickshaw to go to Panvel and on top of that they have to shell out Rs40 to Rs50 to reach the railway station,” said Patil.
Meanwhile, Tatkare assured the residents to take the issue to the concerned official of state transport.
