Taking its cue from BJP's Chai Pe Charcha campaign, which was highly successful during the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leaders recently held few interactive sessions with college students to reach out to the youth in an effective manner.

The party is done with its manifesto and plans to release it once a decision on the seat-sharing talks with the NCP is arrived at. The document has 14 to 16 encapsulating issues pertaining to a diverse category of voters in the state.

"First-time voters and a meticulously orchestrated Modi Wave brought down our government at the centre and we want to improve our efforts," said Anant Gadgil, Congress spokesperson and a member of its manifesto committee.

The committee has ex-union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde as its head and former vice-chancellor of Mumbai University Bhalchandra Mungekar as the main coordinator. There are smaller teams to generate ideas on social aspects, youth affairs, issues on health and women.

Sources said, NCP too is preparing its manifesto under leadership of speaker of the state Assembly Dilip Walse-Patil.

Anant Gadgil said he held discussions with youth from various colleges over a cup of tea. He said that during the Lok Sabha elections, despite doing good work, the party could not reach out to youngsters in an effective manner.

He said that the interaction with collegians over a cup of tea would prove fruitful since the party manifesto would reflect aspirations of the genext while approaching assembly elections. The party also has a separate chapter on Dalit issues.
