The Maharashtra cabinet, on Tuesday, has decided to form the Maharashtra Housing Board that will help to speed up housing projects and meet the deadlines.
State Housing Minister Prakash Mehta said that under Prime Minister Awas Yojana, they decided to construct five lakh houses by 2022. "Chief minister will be president of this board while housing minister, the additional president. It will construct houses for economically weaker sections. Most of the housing projects will be undertaken as part of public private partnership and joint venture. These projects will be completed in time bond period," Mehta said.
He further said they will also tie up with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and fund their housing projects. "Under this scheme, developer/promoters will avail the floor space index of 2 and 1 FSI for green zone. This scheme will be implemented in 383 cities around the state," said Mehta.
