In order to provide security to commuters, especially women and those coming to the city for the first time, the Borivli traffic division has started a helpdesk in the railway station where passengers can write down their details along with that of the rickshaw or taxi they choose to travel in.

Shashikant Talegaonkar, senior inspector, Borivli traffic division, said the helpdesk that had been started around two weeks ago, had been receiving a very positive response, especially from women.

"Many women have come here specially to thank me for the initiative. It feels good that women feel safe while travelling even at night," Talegaonkar said.

You can find the helpdesk on east and west sides of the station. Two local policemen, railway policemen, two RPF personnel and traffic policemen attend to the helpdesk. While during day there aren't many people seeking assistance, after sun down, women commuters and those coming to the city for the first time approach the helpdesk and write down their details as well as the details of the vehicles they are taking.

"Along with the name, number and address of the passenger, we also note down the details of the driver and the vehicle he/she is taking," added Talegaonkar.

Along with this initiative, joint commissioner of police (traffic) BK Upadhyay, additional commissioner of police (traffic) Quaiser Khalid and deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Pratap Dighavkar have jointly started a systematic rickshaw pick-up line, which is meant to check drivers refusing to take commuters to their destination.
