The police on Monday recorded the statement of suspended Deputy Inspector General Paraskar in the departmental inquiry conducted against him. Police commissioner Rakesh Maria had ordered Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) Vivek Phansalkar to conduct the inquiry to probe if Paraskar has violated any service rules.

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has allegedly initiated a preliminary inquiry in a disproportionate assets case against him. Paraskar has been booked for allegedly raping a city-based model.

"There is evidence to prove that Paraskar did go out of his way to help the victim during a case that was registered by her in Paraskar's jurisdiction when he was ACP (North Region). Paraskar also accepted gifts from the victim and met her beyond the purpose of work," said an officer privy to the investigation.

The inquiry report is expected to be submitted soon. If Paraskar is found guilty, he faces possibility of being dismissed from the force.

According to a source in the ACB, the police who have already sent two status reports in the alleged rape case registered against Paraskar, mentioning three properties in his name, two being in Mumbai and one in Navi Mumbai. "Paraskar has not been able to give satisfactory answers about the properties that are in his name to the Mumbai police," said a source in ACB. Apart from the properties it was also found in the investigation that Paraskar had allegedly gifted costly gifts to the victim and also accepted gifts from her.

When contacted the Director General of Police, Anti Corruption Bureau, Praveen Dixit neither confirmed or denied the development. The ACB is likely to record Paraskar statement in coming days.
