Finally, the railway officials will now be forced to come on the field to gauge problems. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has asked his men to be on ground rather than sitting inside their cushy office rooms. He has asked at least 200 staff members from the head quarters of every zone to come on field to monitor the ground reality.

Goyal said that these staffers will be relocated to railway stations, especially the important ones, from where they will talk to the administration and lower rung staff. More responsibility will be given to them as financial and administration powers will be delegated to these field units, starting October.

They will also place station directors at all A1 stations. In Mumbai there are 7 A1 stations, namely CSMT, Dadar, Thane, Kurla LTT, Kalyan, Bandra, and Mumbai Central. These are the stations where the revenue and footfalls are high. These stations will have station directors and will preside over the station masters.

Across India, 75 stations will have station directors and this move is being implemented to strengthen ground operations. These officers will be looking at issues like FOBs and escalators. The railways will now construct 61 more escalators on CR and 31 escalators on WR. They will also monitor works on 20 new FOBs on CR and 10 new FOBs on WR which is expected to be ready by next year.
