Four days after the raw food samples were collected from Byculla Jail by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority, the sample reports reveal that there's nothing wrong with the food.

The food inspectors from FDA visited the Jail on Friday after more than 80 inmates complaining of stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting were taken to the State-run JJ Hospital. The doctors earlier claimed that the patient's suffered from illness either due to contaminated water or bad quality of food.

On Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) denied contamination of water as per the water sample report.

Shailesh Adhav, Joint Commissioner Food, Mumbai, said, "The reports state that there was nothing wrong in the quality of the raw food collected by our inspectors. The reports reveal that the food is of standardized quality. We couldn't collect samples of cooked food since was unavailable when we visited."

Five raw food samples — rice, wheat, soyabean oil, rice flakes, and dal — were collected by FDA. The food report from FDA and water sample report from BMC claims there was no poor quality food or contamination of water given to the inmates of Byculla.

Adhav, added, "There are around 700 inmates including small children. If the quality of the food was bad, everybody would have been affected."
