Keeping in mind the safety guidelines, The Mumbai Police is about to issue guidelines to approximately 7,000 schools in the city. The cops will appoint a nodal officer to execute the guidelines set by them.

The officer will conduct awareness programmes in the schools and will ensure that the schools abide by them.

The decision by Mumbai Police comes after a seven-year-old boy was allegedly murdered inside the Gurugram-based Ryan International School, which was run by Mumbai-based Pinto family. The first school by Pinto family was established in here. There are 1,032 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools and around 5,000 private run schools in the city.

"Keeping in mind the safety issues in the school for students, a need for a fresh set of guidelines is required. We regularly send circulars to schools regarding awareness programmes.", said a senior police officer from Special Branch.

"We have now decided to set guidelines for the schools which will include safety of students travelling by school buses. Also, workshops and awareness programmes will be conducted for the parents to ensure safety of their children.", said the officer.
