In order to evade frequent flooding issues in villages adjoining to proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) requested the Central Water and Power Research Centre (CWPRS) to suggest short term measures.

The nodal agency of NMIA has also sought help from the CWPRS to prepare a master plan for a Surface Drainage System (SDS) in five villages in the outskirts from the core airport area up to NH-4B.

Lokesh Chandra, vice chairman and managing director of CIDCO held meeting with the representative of CWPRS. "The master plan would enable a safe drainage process of rain water from all five villages, namely Paragaon, Dungi, Khalche, Owale, Bhangarpada irrespective of the quantity of rain," said Mohan Ninave, chief public relation officer of CIDCO. He added that Dr V V Bhosekar, Director, CWPRS, Dr T Nagendra, Scientist E, CWPRS and Dr A A Purohit, Scientist D, CWPRS were present in the meeting.

The initiative was made after heavy rainnfall on July 9 and 10, created a flood-like situation in neighbouring villages of proposed NMIA area.
