Municipal Commissioner, Ajoy Mehta has asked a cancer patient to pay current market rate of the property that she seeks near Tata Hospital. The patient, Chitra Shelar, was seeking an alternative accommodation near the Tata Hospital in order to ease her travel woes while taking treatment.

The order passed by the commissioner, after he was directed by the HC, said, “The petitioner can pay upto 80% of the ready reckoner rate and accordingly, her accommodation can be transferred from the current one.”

The commissioner also set aside a previous order passed by the deputy municipal commissioner, which had rejected Shelar’s application seeking a tenement, stating that he had erred. He had come to the conclusion on his personal experience, and it was not the administrative view. The deputy municipal commissioner is a patient himself.

The woman, a project affected person, was given alternate accommodation by the corporation at Mankhurd. But since she is being treated for breast cancer at Tata Hospital, she uses public transport, which causes inconvenience, due to her weakness.
