The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has decided not to conduct a re-examination for its standard 10 Geography paper, which many students and parents had claimed was 80% similar to a paper that was given to the students of Bombay Scottish School during their prelim exams held on January 9.

On March 13, dna had reported about standard 10 students and parents taking to social networking sites to vent about the Geography [history, civics and geography (HCG)] question paper - II of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) board examination, held on March 11.

After investigating the matter, the council has decided not to conduct a re-examination. CISCE's secretary and chief executive Gerry Arathoon said, "We did a preliminary investigation. It has been decided that there would be no re-examination. The fact finding committee shall be constituted by the council for a detailed investigation into this matter."

Wilfred Naronha, vice principal, St. Mary's ICSE school, said, "Though students and parents will be upset over this decision, we need to accept the council's decision as they will decide for the benefit of students."

A standard 10 student said, "Suddenly the decision of not having a re-examination appeared on the CISCE website's ticker. It's not fair. The Scottish kids will score better because they have already attempted the paper earlier.

They will get an advantage."
