While the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, which has propped up the BJP's minority government in Maharashtra has threatened to rock the boat, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis claimed that the government was stable and dismissed the likelihood of mid-term polls as no party or legislator was in the mood to seek a fresh mandate.

"I feel there will be no mid-term polls as no party or MLA of any party wants mid-term polls," said Fadnavis, while reacting to Pawar's statement. "The people of Maharashtra have elected us to power with many expectations... our government will work for five years," he stressed.

"The government is not unstable, it is stable. Legally, we have all rights to take decisions and we are acting accordingly. The people have elected us for speedy decisions and we are going as per the speed we can gather," said Fadnavis.

"Our doors for discussions with the Shiv Sena have never been closed. We have said this earlier," he said, adding claiming the outcome of these discussions would be positive.

BJP leaders and ministers admit that the NCP's support to their government could be prompted by the fact that its leaders in the state and centre are facing allegations of graft and liken this "outside, unconditional support" to "anticipatory bail." The BJP's decision to accept outside support from the NCP instead of a truck with the Sena is said to be driven by desire for the party central leadership to snub the Shiv Sena by keeping it out of the government.
