Mumbai police's recent instructions will certainly bring smiles to the faces of those renting out their properties as well as the tenants. From now on, neither party will need to visit a police station to submit their details for acquiring a no-objection certificate (NoC) from the department. The Mumbai police have decided to allow property owners and tenants to submit the same via registered post.
According to the police, it is mandatory for the owner to intimate the police while renting out a property. "It has come to light that few estate agents are spreading misleading information about NoC from the police among the owners and tenants which leads to inconvenience and harassment. It has been learnt that few estate agents charge money from the parties for furnishing tenancy agreement details to the police. This is illegal and measures should be taken to curb this," said deputy commissioner of police Dhananjay Kulkarni.
"Now the owner can provide information about the tenants either in person or via courier/registered post to the local police station and there is no need for NoC. The acknowledgement received after having sent the information should be preserved by the house owner. Form in which the details should be given is available at all police stations. Action should be taken on the estate agents who were charging money from the people concerned for this," said a police officer.
