No more ‘reserved’ results, promises MU

Even after the declaration of results, the University of Mumbai continues to grapple with the issue of pending results and to address this the varsity has decided to declare results of a course only when its evaluation is 100 per cent complete.

At a press meeting held on Friday, officials from the varsity declared that they would ensure that all the papers are evaluated before results are declared. Arjun Ghatule, Director, Board of Examinations and Evaluation, Mumbai University (MU) said, "During the summer semester examination, several students had to wait for their results even after the results of their course were declared as the varsity had held some results in reserve. This time since there are no technical glitches we will announce the results only when all papers have been evaluated."

As per recent figures, 10,49,303 answer sheets of the total 14,07,035 have been evaluated, and 6,167 of the 3.7 lakh students have received the results for their courses. At the current pace of evaluation, results of all courses should be declared within 45 days according to Ghatule.

For the winter semester exams, a total of 12,618 teachers have been assigned the task of assessment of which only about 2,500 teachers have been regularly assessing papers. The varsity is now trying to bring in teachers from faculties where the teacher count is low.

With over 4,500 students yet to get the re-evaluation results filed in the summer semester, the varsity has started a special drive to speed up the process. "Over 3,000 pending re-evaluation cases are from arts and science. We have started a drive with the leadership of two senior faculty members to finish the pending revaluation," said Ghatule.
