No more heavy vehicles on 17 flyovers on Western Express Highway

The traffic police on Saturday issued orders to restrict plying of heavy vehicles on 17 flyovers on Western Express Highway (WEH) during certain hours of the day. The restriction has been imposed to ensure that there are no traffic congestion on the WEH during peak hours.

According to the traffic police, they were receiving a number of complaints from citizens that heavy vehicles would create massive traffic snarls on the WEH. The traffic police, taking a serious note of the issues of the motorists, banned plying of heavy vehicles on 17 flyovers from morning 8am to 11:30am south bound and from evening 5:30pm to 7:30pm north bound stretch. Few of the important flyover are Prabhondkar Thakare flyover at Bandra, Kherwadi flyover, Vakola flyover, Andheri flyover, JVLR flyover, Dindoshi flyover.

"We received complaints that heavy traffic flow was one of the reasons behind a lot of the accidents on the WEH and sudden breakdowns would cause a serious traffic problem. Hence, we have imposed restriction on their movement on the flyover till further orders," said deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Pratap Dighavkar.
