Taking a U-turn on the issue of giving land for bullet train's underground station at Bandra -Kurla Complex (BKC), chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said no final decision has been taken in that regard as yet.

Earlier on June 3, during a meeting of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and railway officials held at Sahyadri guesthouse, Fadnavis had put his foot firmly down against the idea of a bullet train station at BKC.

The state government, through MMRDA, and the Indian railways have been at loggerheads over the location of Bandra Terminus of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. The MMRDA has been objecting to the project in the financial district of BKC, as it has plans to develop an international financial services centre on the same plot. The railway officials, however, are insisting on an underground station there. Railway board chairman A K Mittal had insisted on the BKC land for the station during the Make in India week held in February.

Meanwhile, the chief minister is believed to have strongly pleaded against giving BKC land for the bullet train station at BKC, during a meeting at the Sahyadri guesthouse. Fadnavis had even offered any other alternative land in the state, which could also prove to be the starting point for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train as well as the proposed bullet train from Kolkata, which would be running through Nashik to Mumbai.

Replying to an SMS on Wednesday, however, Fadnavis made it clear that there was no official decision yet. He said the government still had some queries. He also confirmed that there have deliberations on alternative lands, which are in possession of the Railways and state government at present.

During the Make in India week, railway board chairman A K Mittal had told reporters, "Discussions are going on with the Maharashtra government. They have not completely refused (our proposal). Nothing has been finalised. The proposed terminal will be underground, three levels below the ground level. The space above will be available for the centre."
