Ten days after a woman commuter on the trans harbour line was hit by a robber, fell off a train and died in hospital, the police had not been able to trace the attacker.
The Vashi and Mumbai government railway police (GRP) set up four special teams to investigate the case and have grilled about 80 history-sheeters since September 5, when the incident happened, said PM Karyakarte, senior inspector, Vashi GRP. They have also been trying to track the mobile phone of the victim that was probably stolen by the culprit.
Aarti Gholapkar was headed home on the train from Khoparkhairane station when a robber standing along the railway track, between Ghansoli and Rabale stations, used a stick and a rope to snatch her bag.
The rope caught her neck and the 43-year-old Dombivli resident was dragged off the train.
Fellow travellers informed the police at Rabale station and she was taken to Criticare hospital in Thane. She succumbed two days later.
The woman's bag containing some money, her phone, mangalsutra and earrings were missing.
