The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport has given a Diwali gift to commuters by flagging off mini bus and ring route services in three nodes of the satellite city.

The services in Ghansoli were inaugurated by Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik, while the ring route service in Belapur was thrown open to the public by mayor Sagar Naik and standing committee chief Suresh Kulkarni inaugurated the one in Turbhe.

Ghansoli residents, majorly those belonging to the working class, had since long been asking for these services. In the absence of a proper bus service, the locals had to face harassment at the hands of autorickshaw drivers. For now, NMMT has started two bus services in Ghansoli that will run from Ghansoli railway station to Nelco chowk in Mahape.

“Several people from Ghansoli go to the MIDC area for work. They have to risk their lives by crossing the railway track or the busy Thane-Belapur Road. There had been a growing demand for bus services in this node and so NMMT decided to deploy 2 new buses on the Ghansoli railway station - Nelco Mahape route,” said MLA Naik after inaugurating the bus service.

NMMT chairman Anwar Shaikh was present at the inaugural event.

Naik added, “Corporator Sanjay Patil has demanded bus services be started in the Ghansoli node, Gharonda and Simplex. I would request the NMMT chairman and general manager to consider this demand and extend its service to the Cidco node for the convenience of passengers in this area.”

Bus services were launched from the Turbhe railway station area by standing committee chairman Suresh Kulkarni and mayor Sagar Naik in Belapur. Kulkarni, a corporator from Turbhe, had been demanding a bus services from Turbhe to APMC and Vashi, as the absence of such services left locals at the mercy of the auto rickshaw drivers.

He had raised the issue with the NMMT chairman, and as soon as 10 new buses were added to the fleet, this new service was started. NMMT has started ring route service on Turbhe railway station to Vashi depot. This bus will ply from APMC and Kopri to the Vashi depot.

Naik inaugurated a bus service from the Artist Colony to Belapur railway station. This bus will ply via sector 8B gurudwara, Kalpataru society and People’s School to Belapur railway station.
Belapur corporator Shaila Nath had demanded ring route service in this node as there are no proper commuting facilities.

Speaking on the occasion, mayor Naik, said, “NMMC is committed to providing good commuting facilities to the residents of Navi Mumbai.
