Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is putting all its efforts to grab the number one position in the Cleanliness Survey 2017. Apart from garbage lifting and installation of e-toilet across the city, the civic body has also been reaching out to citizens to get positive feedback.

In part three of the cleanliness survey, there is 600 marks which a civic body can get with only citizens' feedback. Through various mediums, the civic body has asked residents to participate in the survey by giving a missed call to toll- free numbers and then receive a call wherein they can give their feedback about the cleanliness initiatives taken by the local body this year, comparing it to last year.

In order to get maximum people's feedback, the civic body has deputed its officials to reach out to citizens. Some of the officials have been reportedly asked to help senior citizens in the process. Several senior citizens said that some officials approached them and gave missed calls from their mobile phones to the toll-free number. They immediately got calls from a number wherein they were asked six questions about cleanliness.

An official informed on the condition of anonymity that the civic body has formed groups for each wards. Each group has six to seven members and each group has to reach out to at least 500 people everyday and get their feedback through the toll-free number.

Tushar Pawar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, who is in charge of 'Swachha Maharashtra Abhiyan' said, "We have not formed any such group. But we deputed officials to create awareness among residents of the city. The survey has reached the last stage which includes citizens' feedback, and for this, we have put up banners and got ads published in newspapers to create awareness. The citizens' feedback will end on February 28. The toll-free numbers are 1969 and 1800111969.

The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) had started the Cleanliness Survey in 2016 and ranked 73 cities on the cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation across the country. On the same lines, the MoUD has initiated Swachh Survekshan 2017 which is being conducted to rank 500 cities of India. The performance evaluation of the Swachh Survekshan is conducted by Quality Council of India (QCI), an autonomous body established by the Government of India in 1997 for quality assurance in all spheres of activities including governance.

There are three parts of the Survey. In the first part, which comprises 900 marks, the data will be provided by the civic body. In the second, data collection will be done through direct observation and independent assessment and this has 500 marks. The third part requires participation of citizens in the cleanliness drive and their feedback which contains 600 marks. The final ranking will be done based on the marks obtained from all three parts.
