A 19-year-old college student approached the Nalasopara police on Thursday to file a complaint of molestation and assault. Instead of filing an FIR, the Nalasopara police just made an entry in the station diary, but not before calling her mother a 'drug peddlar' and giving the girl some unsolicited advice: Don't venture out on the streets after 6 pm.

On Thursday night, the mother and daughter, who is student of Human Science at a renowned city college, were walking towards their home in Ostwal Nagari in Nalasopara East, when a bunch of youths approached them. According to the girl, one of them touched her breasts and slapped her when she confronted him. The mother managed to click a picture of one of the perverts and showed it to the police. However, instead of taking immediate action, the Nalasopara police chose to lecture the girl against staying out too late.

"The police acted very rudely. They asked me to not roam the streets after 6 pm. My case was not at all taken seriously and my mother was projected as a drug peddler. I came to demand justice as I stood up against those perverts, but the Nalasopara police themselves are the biggest perverts," said the student.

"I will inform my embassy soon as the police officials are not co-operating with us," she added.

"Back in my country, I was a cop who knew her rights. But here everyone is corrupt. They only work if you show them money," said the victim's mother.

Ravindra Badguzar, senior inspector of Nalasopara police station said that a station diary entry was made as no lady officers were present when the complainant reached the police station. "We have mentioned the incident in the station diary. We are ready to register a complaint as the doors of our police station are open for all. We would initiate action once the complaint is registered," he added.
